The Königsheide in the district of Treptow-Köpenick is not only a popular recreational area, but also a historically and culturally significant place. Due to its biological diversity and as a natural space in the middle of the city, it appears to be worthy of protection and is a model for ecological thinkers on an international level. CLB is pleased to present the works of four artists who are currently investigating the past and present of Königsheide: Dagie Brundert, katrinem, Birgit Szepanski and Maike Zimmermann. In various media such as pinhole camera photography, video, augmented reality (preliminary work), sound walks and an open archive, they explore this special landscape and invite you to rediscover the Königsheide with them.

With her well-used Illy coffee can Dagie Brundert takes pinhole camera photos in the Königsheide over several days. She is guided by chance and moods, taking something from nature and giving it back: the photo is developed with Forest Tea and then displayed in the place where it was taken. A second copy can be found in the gallery.

katrinem invites you to a performative sound walk leading from Baumschulenweg S-Bahn station through the Königsheide to Schöneweide S-Bahn station. In Path of Awareness_Eintauchen_Auftauchen, the embedment of the green space Königsheide in its urban surroundings is addressed.

Birgit Szepanski presents Missing Stories, an open archive in which the results of her research on a so-called ‘brothel barrack’ from the Second World War are shown.

The Layering of Time and Memory by Maike Zimmermann, consists of video sketches and photographs in preparation for an A.R. video walk in the Königsheide. It interweaves historical (archival material, interviews) with fictional elements and combines digital and analogue aspects.

Events

super8 Workshop (Dagie Brundert)

A small group of 6 people, a Super 8 camera, black & white film. We head into the forest and let ourselves be guided by mood and coincidence. We film and collect the ingredients for the development afterwards: what the forest provides (bark, leaves, lichens, berries …). We use it to brew a kind of “forest tea”: the essence of the forest!
Mixed together with washing soda and vitamin C powder, this results in a powerful broth that has the ability to convert silver salts into metallic silver – the magic of photography, the creation of an image. The resulting film can be seen as a digital version in the gallery.

Sunday, 06.11.2022 – Workshop part 1 in the Königsheide – forest walk, filming and collecting ingredients, meeting point: Schöneweide S-Bahn station (exit downstairs), 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Tuesday, 08.11.2022 – Workshop part 2 at CLB – preparing bio-developer and film developing as performance, 6-8 p.m.

Urban Sound Walk: Path of Awareness_Eintauchen_Auftauchen (katrinem)
A performative sound walk from Baumschulenweg S-Bahn station through Königsheide to Schöneweide S-Bahn station.
The aural space that will be experienced during the walk begins in a densely built residential area and changes to a grown space, a sparse mixed forest of pines and oaks, and ends again in a residential area.
Along the way, the respective times of day, week and seasons can be experienced. Spaces dominated by the moving sounds of our traffic systems and the reflections of various architectures change to green spaces full of atmospheric and locatable sounds. The path is a continual immersing and emerging of one sound-space into another.

Friday, 11.11.2022, 5 p.m.
Sunday, 13.11.2022, 11 a.m.
Duration: 2 hours each
Start: Baumschulenweg S-Bahn station (exit Baumschulenstraße/Glanzstraße)
End: Schöneweide S-Bahn Station
Please note: sturdy shoes, possibly rain jacket, drinks. Avoid heavy bags
