Urban Route Moritzplatz to Mitte
as part of the open workshop „Museumsquartier am Köllnischen Park“
The Märkisches Museum and the adjacent Marinehaus are to be expanded and further developed in the coming years – as Stadtmuseum (city museum) and a place of urban discourse in a diverse quarter. In order to make this process public and collaborative, the Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Stadtmuseums Berlin (Association of Friends and Supporters of the Stadtmuseum Berlin) organises the open workshop “Museumsquartier am Köllnischen Park” from April to August 2019. People and institutions in the neighbourhood as well as students from Berlin’s colleges and universities are invited to contribute with their visions for the quarter’s future. How can Märkisches Museum and Marinehaus become a lively centre of attraction for locals and visitors alike without compromising the quarter’s special atmosphere? How can Märkisches Museum and the neighbourhood benefit to the full from each other?
The TU Berlin departments of Urban Development, Architecture and Historical Urban Studies, the Department of Architecture and Building Services Technology of the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin as well as the Applied Geography and Spatial Planning unit at the Geography Department of the HU Berlin are contributing to the open workshop.
As a member of the friends of the Stadtmuseum association, Sally Below supervises the academic workshop and thus combines one of the most exciting contemporary topics of Berlin’s cultural landscape and urban development with research and teaching. Particular attention is directed to the connection between Moritzplatz in the south, where the CLB Berlin is located at the Aufbau Haus, and the Schlossplatz as a tourist hotspot in the north of the quarter.
In a design task of the TU Berlin Department of Urban Development (Campus El Gouna, Paulus van der Kuil), international students develop interdisciplinary feasibility studies and development strategies for the area, exploring the range of potentials and scope of design along the “Urban Route Moritzplatz to Mitte”.
The project’s results will be presented to the public at the CLB Berlin on 25 July, 2019.
All results of the open workshop “Museumsquartier am Köllnischen Park” will be presented in an open air exhibition at the Museumsfest of Märkisches Museum on August 18th 2019.
